A 72.ª edição do Festival de Cannes acontece de 14 a 25 de Maio e já se conhecem os filmes que compõem a selecção oficial. Terrence Malick, Pedro Almodóvar e Xavier Dolan são alguns dos nomes confirmados na edição de 2019, mas podem ainda juntar-se outros até ao início do festival - Quentin Tarantino é um dos mais ansiados, apesar do seu filme ainda estar em fase de pós-produção. The Dead Don't Die, de Jim Jarmusch, é o filme de abertura desta edição.
O poster oficial do Festival de Cannes 2019, relevado recentemente, presta homenagem à recém-falecida cineasta Agnès Varda. Alejandro G. Inarritu e Nadine Labaki presidem os júris da competição principal e Un Certain Regard, respectivamente. O actor Alain Delon receberá a Palma de Ouro Honorária.
